Angus Young Tag

JUST how much does Filippo at SoloDallas want you to sound like Angus Young? A lot. So much so that he has made it a mission to reverse engineer one of Angus’ trademark pieces of kit. Not an amp or pedal mind you... it’s his ‘70s era Schaffer wireless system. And we can attest, it makes a surprisingly significant difference. The SoloDallas Schaffer Replica gives both bloom and depth to your guitar tone... making a vintage Marshall sound more like three vintage Marshalls. It is a pretty impressive thing to hear in person. We suggest if you have the opportunity to hear one for yourself, do it. The replica does away with the wireless aspect, but not the punch it gave to Angus’ signature roar.

Angus Schaffer Replica (Guitar Player)

14 Sep The Schaffer Replica at Guitar Player!

Dear Members,

Of course the TSR has been something of a secret… You know, labor of love here on SD. But a lot of things are converging… Our first production run – sold out on the GT and on the pedal – the great unsolicited comments our first users have begun posting here… Then, Fil’s trip to Vancouver to meet with Angus, and the new album – possibly before the end of the year, to celebrate AC/DC’s 4 decades!!

And now the TSR, that started as a “little special something” for our SoloDallas members… is breaking out: we just got the news that “Guitar Player” Magazine has just today published a sneak preview, “The “Secret” of Angus Young’s Classic AC/DC Guitar Sound?” about the TSR. (If you remember, it was a February 1984 “Guitar Player” interview with Angus Young, when asked “Do you use any effects,” he said “I only use a Schaffer-Vega wireless” which brought Fil on the right track on his search for the “Back in Black” tone.) 21 May Another Little mystery unveiled by Angus Young in person (with help by Ken Schaffer, Then and Now)

Well, this surely isn’t a scoop… but I had forgotten to tell you about it.

While we (Ken Schaffer and I) were in Vancouver, at the Warehouse Studio meeting Angus Young to deliver The Schaffer Replica S/N001 to him personally, several subjects were touched.

It was then that – among other things – Angus told us about a little thing that used to be a mystery for some time to many (me included).

If you observe this picture,

Angus Young, Glasgow 1978, Recording “If you Want Blood (You’ve Got It), Live. What’s the mysterious object on the strap?

you will certainly notice the mysterious item on the strap. (more…)

16 May Full Circle: SoloDallas Meeting Angus Young. Part Two.

Of course, both Ken & I gave in to Ellen’s second request that we join them all in feasting – happily so. The meal would have also given me an excuse for my silence – shock, more than silence – keeping my mouth full (though politely) could have calmed me down, I thought. And it worked. It just worked. The meal was delicious, which I am sure helped me quite a bit. Dinner was a healthy Asian recipe cooked by Ellen in a wok, containing rice, chicken and vegetables. Lightly on the spicy side (ask Ken about it).  Eating “family style” was a relaxing sign for us all.
