So, hello again everyone! 🙂

Here I am again with another article.

This all is mostly things we already know, but I felt that we needed a place to put it all together and make it easier to consult rather than have to search though all the other pages to find the info on the comments or that sort of thing.

What I plan to do is a real Index for everything AC/DC related (gear-wise), but mostly the amps. Perhaps we can cover all of AC/DC’s history, but I can’t do this alone. I would like to ask every member of this community a little help. If you find any bit of info, good pics, videos, whatever it is, that you think it’s interesting, share with us, so we can oficially post it here.

So, let’s start with the amps.

Early Years – High Voltage, TNT, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1973 – 1976)

05 Jan The Vintage Marshall Guide

This is my first article here at Solodallas.com. I hope this can be useful to all of you who are interested in buying old Marshall amps.

(SoloDallas’ note: it is with pleasure that I introduce to you our already very well known friend Andrè, aka  Jaiminho Pagina: he’s now a contributor of SoloDallas.net!)

(NOTE – I did some updates at the 2203/ 2204 section of the article ~JaiminhoPagina)

Before starting, I must warn you that acquiring vintage gear can be really risky. You can end up buying something that is not what you expected or even something that is damaged or modded beyond repair. So, always keep your eyes open for “fishy” deals, look for information, and always ask for high definition photos (especially from the interior of the amps – the circuit, the tubes and transformers) to make sure everything is right. If you don’t have much experience (myself included, to be honest :P), I recommend asking help from the members here of the community. Post a link of the desired amp on the “Ebay Watch Post”, so we can help analyzing it. (more…)

26 Nov An Aracom Attenuator and a Few Vintage Marshalls (Complete)

So… been meaning to shoot something like this for some time, here you have it.

It’s a long journey into what an attenuator can do for you, with powerful, loud tube amps (ONLY tube amps can be attenuated with an attenuator such as the Aracom).

Total of 6 videos, all being processed right now, here’s the one.

Thanks for viewing, yours,

Fil 🙂

16 Oct 1976 Marshall Super Lead MkII & Back in Black – Update

Update of Saturday the 16th.

Brought the treble side of the Rhythm part down a tad. Replayed both solos, re-positioning the microphone, still only one microphone (I lack the second damn XLR jack, would you believe it? and I was too hectic trying the solos again).

Changed the equalizer settings for the solos slightly, see both new equalization settings.

Also, “bounced” Angus’ parts without the master track (i.e., you now can listen to me alone, rhythm and solos, no song).

Back in Black with the new settings, solos:

In order to get the amount of drive I needed (and that is heard on the record) I kept the loudness way down by using an attenuator, settings here were… all at 10! LOL. Except for presence that was still 0. All the rest, for the solos here, 10.

Parts ONLY (no original song):

New equalization settings: (more…)

05 Oct 1976 Marshall JMP “1959″ Super Lead Mk II, 100 W

So, it says Angus loved these right? Those damned 100 watters, no Master Volume. Right. It says he “only” wanted those, he only liked those, he only blah blah blah.

Okay. Found. Incoming (you know, once you know the record of your life has it on it, I’m not going to save on things. These will be more and more vintage – and expensive – as time goes by. As the word spreads that Back in Black was made with these – and not BiB only! As Back in Black prepares to be Album number ONE in history for sales, of any genre).

A Super Gentleman – probably Scottish? – had one for sale, but not on eBay. NO mods whatsoever.Better – way better, money wise – deal than each one of the previous two (one still incoming, the 50 watters MV is at the customs, I’m told). Condition wise it’s excellent as you can tell. All of the three recently purchased look more or less this good. I’m not one who cares for exterior condition, but on amps, it is a good sign of them having been treated well. And amps NEED to work well. (more…)
